Easter 2021: Ideas for Parents in South Florida

For a majority of Americans, 2020 was an absolute bust. We missed out on the normal traditions we’ve come to adore, like July 4th BBQs, trick-or-treating, and, of course, community Easter egg hunts. Yes, it’s safe to say that 2020 was the worst.

While 2021 is looking a heck of a lot more promising, there’s undoubtedly still a high level of trepidation about celebrating the year’s first big holiday: Easter. If you’re not keen on the idea of taking the family out for a standard egg hunt, you’ve got plenty of other options to ensure the Easter Bunny makes a pitstop in your backyard.

Easter At Home Guide: DIY Egg Hunts & More

Here’s the deal: Even with the Easter Bunny visiting your home, you might want to go above and beyond the call of duty this time around. (After all, your kids have gone through a lot this year, and they deserve to see the light at the end of the tunnel.) So, after the Easter Bunny does his job, up the ante with some creative DIY activities, crafts, and games.

Here are some backyard Easter egg hunt ideas and tips to get your creative juices flowing:

  • Fill eggs with LEGO pieces, each of which will combine to make a complete LEGO structure.
  • Create a “nature scavenger hunt” instead of your typical Easter eggs.
  • Pack eggs with unique activities (e.g. “do a cartwheel blindfolded”) to add in some eggsercise.
  • Plan an Easter egg relay race with the whole family.
  • Organize a glow-in-the-dark egg hunt at night. (Fill eggs with miniature glow sticks.)
  • If you have family outside of your home that wants to participate, coordinate with everyone to throw a virtual party and Easter egg hunt.
  • Stuff coupons into eggs that will give the kids a free “out” from doing chores for a weekend or an extra 30 minutes of Roblox time.
  • Make an Easter-themed egg-shaped pinata—and you know what comes next.
  • Put ingredients (flour, sugar, etc.) in the eggs, and bake or cook a new recipe.
  • After a year in which you got products delivered to your door virtually every day, you likely have a million cardboard boxes saved up. Use them to create an Easter box fort for the kids to decorate and play in.
  • If the weather’s nice, as it always seems to be in South Florida, set up a tent and camp out all weekend.
