When it comes to buying a new or used car in South Florida, you have many choices. Body style, color, appearance, performance, price, and fuel economy are important things to consider. But there is no greater or more important factor that should influence your purchase decision than safety. Accidents are on the rise as our South Florida roadways become more congested. In fact, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there was an average of nearly 800 accidents per day on Florida highways in 2012. This alarming statistic underscores the need to consider a car’s safety features carefully as part of your purchasing process.

Your South Florida Honda Dealers are proud to sell some of the safest vehicles on the road today. Indeed, Honda has always placed passenger safety at the top of their list. Put simply, nothing is more important to Honda or us than keeping you safe when behind the wheel.

There are essentially two kinds of safety features: passive and active. One of the many passive safety features on today’s 2015 and 2016 Hondas is the ACE™ Body Structure. This Honda-exclusive body design provides an additional layer of safety in the event of a frontal collision by evenly distributing the energy of the crash throughout the vehicle’s frame and body cage.

Another important passive safety feature you’ll find on Hondas are dual-stage multiple-threshold front airbags. These airbags can sense the severity of a front impact and deploy accordingly. Select Honda models come equipped with SmartVent® front side airbags and side-curtain airbags with rollover sensors. Of course, there’s no substitute for using your Honda’s three-point seatbelts with an automatic tensioning system at all times to help minimize injury.

Keeping your Honda in control under a variety of conditions is another important safety consideration. That’s why your new Honda features MacPherson Strut Front Suspension, Stabilizer Bar, Multi-Link Rear Suspension, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution.

Now, let’s talk about active safety features. Active safety technology helps to avoid possible accidents in the first place. Honda Sensing™ is a cutting-edge suite of the latest in active safety and driver-assistive technologies. Let’s take a closer look at each of these features.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW) employs radar and optical sensors that alert you if you make an unintended departure from your lane of travel. Flashing lights and audible sounds tell you to correct your lane drift.

The Lane-Keeping Assist System (LKAS) functions much like the previously described Lane Departure Warning system. If you are fatigued or distracted, LKAS detects that you are leaving the middle of the lane without signaling and adjusts the steering wheel to keep you centered in your lane.

Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) is another part of the Honda Sensing safety suite. The system determines if you are drifting too close to the side of the roadway at speeds between 45 and 90 mph without the turn signal being activated. The system alerts you by a series of rapid steering wheel vibrations. If you continue to drift off the road, the system can even adjust the steering and braking to bring you back into your designated lane.

Adaptive Cruise Control uses radar and optics to determine the correct distance between your Honda and other forward traffic. It then calculates the correct distance interval, so you don’t have to change your speed manually, keeping you at a safe distance.

Forward Collision Warning (FCW) uses a small camera in the front of the windshield. It can detect if you are getting too close to a vehicle or if a possible collision is imminent. The system then uses audible and visible alerts to make you aware of the risk. If no action is taken, the system coordinates with the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS™) to automatically apply the brakes, if necessary.

Additionally, today’s 2015 and 2016 Honda feature a multi-angle rearview camera with sight lines. You can observe the rear of your vehicle from three different angles, including normal, top down, and wide to help avoid obstacles. Another important safety feature is Honda’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). It monitors your tire pressure and lets you know if one or more of your tires need filling by way of a special symbol that illuminates on the instrument panel. Daytime running lights make your Honda more visible to oncoming traffic.

This impressive suite of passive and active safety features are your assurance that your new Honda is one of the safest vehicles on the road today. They are just some of the reasons why Hondas consistently achieve some of the industry’s highest safety ratings. So if you are in the market for a new or used car in South Florida, you can buy with confidence from any of our South Florida Honda dealership locations, knowing that your Honda will keep you safe and secure no matter where the road takes you.
