The 2014 Honda Odyssey was the last full redesign of the manufacturer’s flagship minivan. With the upcoming 2017 model, Honda looks to reinvigorate the minivan rather than reinvent its proverbial wheels. With a plethora of stylized updates and changes, the 2017 Odyssey is about to set itself even further apart in the highly competitive minivan segment. Here’s what you can expect with Honda’s newest minivan when it’s released in the upcoming months nationwide and at our South Florida Honda dealerships.
We Spy, with Our Little Eyes, Something Extraordinary
Photos have hit interweb tubes over the last couple months depicting a shrouded minivan—assumed to be the 2017 Odyssey—traversing the Colorado mountains and Hollywood highways. Could it be? We’re unsure, but the extended hatchback-like rear would suggest something incredible is underneath that mysterious cloak. See for yourself.
What’s Changed with the New Honda Odyssey?
For years the Honda Odyssey has been regarded as the best minivan on the road, earning awards left and right. Any changes made to this 2017 model should undoubtedly enhance its award-winning style and features. Those changes have yet to be revealed, but we can expect the following to come with the new Odyssey:
- Impressive EPA-estimated numbers for fuel efficiency
- Slight modifications to appearance (a rear spoiler, altered front grille, and Xenon headlights are at the top of our should-be list)
- Improved performance with an upgraded V6
- More availability of Honda Sensing safety tech
What is known, however, is that the Honda Odyssey will be developed alongside and influenced by its partner in crime, the Honda Pilot SUV. This information gives credence to the theory that the 2017 Odyssey will get a boost in engine performance and a few stylized upgrades to top it off.
What’s Underneath the Hood?
If the Odyssey and Pilot do share the same platform, it’s expected that Honda’s 3.5L V6 SOHC engine will come equipped in both. Producing 280 hp and paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, fuel-efficiency numbers on the Odyssey should be the best yet. Other possibilities include available all-wheel-drive options and even a hybrid powertrain, but details in either regard are murky to say the least, with the only reference coming from American Honda Motor VP, John Mendel.
What New Features Can I Expect?
Like the 2016 Odyssey (and all before it), the newest Honda minivan should come with a list of new and useful features. HondaLink infotainment should come with the newest Odyssey, and we’d wager that it will also come integrated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In 2014, Honda introduced the HondaVac system during its redesign; perhaps with the 2017 mode, engineers will delight families once more with another unique feature to highlight in our brochures.
Entering into an era where safety overhauls are as abundant as sunny days here in South Florida, Honda should be embracing standard Honda Sensing technologies. Past models of the Odyssey have come standard with Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning systems—excellent in their own respect—and we at South Florida Honda Dealers expect the 2017 Odyssey to offer even more standard safety features.
When Will You Carry the 2017 Odyssey?
Dates have yet to be released, but we anticipate having the 2017 Honda Odyssey join our lineup of new Honda models for sale sometime in late 2016 or early 2017.
