Hey, MotorTrend’s 2018 SUV of the Year is back! That’s right — the new 2019 Honda CR-V returns, bringing with it that bar-raising class and sophistication we’ve all come to adore. Even in the most competitive segment, with rivals like the Nissan Rogue and Toyota RAV4 nipping at its heels, the latest Honda CR-V is the one crossover that continues its yearly offering of enigmatic je ne sais quoi.
Except we do know what: a charming and well-dressed crossover, full of features and as safe as Fort Knox, the 2019 CR-V is the clear No. 1 on every “best SUV in America” list. South Florida drivers in search of a spacious, tech-laden ride needn’t look further than the newest “Comfortable Runabout Vehicle.”
A Dapper SUV That Delivers The Goods
It’s easy to see why the CR-V won more awards than Bohemian Rhapsody at the Oscars. Look at it – just look! See that bold front grille and those free-flowing lines? The wide stance and long wheelbase? That gorgeous dual chrome exhaust finishing? Affordable family SUVs aren’t supposed to be this stylish, yet here we are, looking this handsome five-seater square in its eyes, wondering if everything we’ve ever known has been a lie.
Snapping back to reality, we open the 2019 CR-V’s doors to enter a world of mind-blowing comfort. Surprisingly swanky and seriously stunning, the new CR-V’s cabin is a breath of fresh air. A thoughtfully designed dash features the SUV’s piece de resistance, its crème de la crème, its magnum opus: its central stack. Led by the available 7.0-inch Display Audio Touchscreen, the stack is bolstered by myriad pieces of technology, including USB ports, navigation with HD Digital Traffic, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate controls, and volume knobs. Everything runs through the optional nine-speaker premium audio system. Rock on.
Families will grow to admire more than just the CR-V’s tech, too, as Honda’s newest SUV is a smidge bigger than the outgoing model. Small item storage is abundant, cargo volume maxes out at 75.8 cubic feet, passenger space totals up to 105.9 cubes—perfect for five booties. Legroom and headroom is quite ample, and a rear low-load floor ensures you can pull, push, shove, and shake just about any cargo into the back via the hands-free power liftgate. You could say the 2019 Honda CR-V is a masterclass in packaging, but that would sell it short.
The Mary Poppins of Crossovers
The 2019 Honda CR-V not only rolls around as your umbrella – it comes with available rain-sensing windshield wipers – but it also pushes out a lot of pep on the asphalt. Powered by a standard 184-hp 2.4L inline-four, the CR-V is rather capable of performing those song-and-dance numbers known as “family road trips.” Upgrade the CVT-engine pairing to include an available 190-hp 1.5L turbo-four, and those trips will deliver noticeably better performance and high-end fuel efficiency in the range of 32 mpg. With a max towing rating of 1,500 pounds, the 2019 CR-V guarantees nothing will be boring with it acting as your strangely magical nanny.
As Safe as Fort Knox
An IIHS Top Safety Pick once again, the new Honda CR-V comes standard with some of the best vehicle safety features in existence. This is all wrapped inside the Honda Sensing package, which includes lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and collision mitigation braking, to name a few. All Honda CR-V safety features are simple to use and highly effective at reducing collisions. In fact, MotorTrend’s road-testers claim that the CR-V’s lane-keep system is the best available in the price range and perhaps even beyond. That’s uncharted territory for an SUV priced below $25,000.
