Leave it to Honda to make a hybrid car that doesn’t scream, “I’m a hybrid!”

Car and Driver loves the fact that the 2019 Honda Insight doesn’t look like “an alien space pod,” yet gives you the fuel economy (51 mpg combined) you wish your normal-looking vehicle could provide. Not only that, you also get a vehicle with “Civic-like excellent road manners,” a thoroughly quiet ride, and a comfy cabin. In other words, the new Insight delivers the goods, fuel-wise, yet provides both the performance and coziness you demand and deserve.

Speaking of Style…

Just because critics are raving about a 2019 Honda hybrid that doesn’t look like a spaceship, doesn’t mean that they find the styling of the 2019 Insight boring. Far from it! In fact, the Insight has got a sporty look — much like a perennial Honda favorite, the Civic. In other words, it’s got the head-turning, sleek look of an upscale vehicle, but with amazing gas mileage as a bonus. The 2019 Honda Insight was purposely designed to be “a beautiful car that just happens to be a hybrid,” according to Honda Product Planner, Chris Hand.

A Peek Under the Hood Reveals a Unique Hybrid System

Under the hood you’ll find Honda’s two-motor hybrid system, which has been specially adapted to fit the Insight’s size, but instead of the usual 2.0-liter engine, Honda has equipped the Insight with a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle engine that, together with the two electric motors and battery, gives the sharp little hybrid a combined horsepower of 151 — plenty of gusto.

A Mature Ride Inside & Out

The HybridCARS reviewers loved the fact that the Insight is designed to look more like a “normal” car, a fact they think more mature drivers will truly appreciate. But that’s only the tip of the proverbial iceberg because HybridCARS also described the Insight as the Civic’s sophisticated sibling noting that in the Insight, “the styling is tidier, the ride is supple, wind noise is minimal and everything inside feels well bolted together.”

The interior of the Insight is also a breath of fresh air. It features an eight-inch infotainment screen (EX and Touring trims) that looks sleek and is simple to navigate, plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and standard Honda Sensing safety technology, too. There’s plenty of legroom, and we are pleased to say hello to our old friends, the turning knobs.

Performance to Match?

Consider this: HybridCars’ reviewers found the steering so responsive that they quipped that the Insight — a hybrid car, mind you — might just inspire drivers to have a bit of fun on their daily drives. “Try saying that about a Prius,” they observed.

All kidding aside, the Insight not only boasts that quintessential Honda steering excellence, it also offers a smooth, comfortable ride, not to mention a quiet one. Kelley Blue Book reviewers loved the 2019 Insight’s regenerative braking system, which unlike the regenerative braking systems in most other hybrids on the road today, doesn’t have that stiff feel.

2019 Insight Trims

If you’re in the market for a stylish vehicle that doesn’t advertise the fact that it’s a hybrid, you’ll definitely want to give the 2019 Honda Insight a first — and a second — look.

The LX

The base model 2019 Insight LX comes standard with niceties like 16″ alloy wheels, tilt steering column, push-button start, LED head and tail lights, a six-speaker 160-watt stereo system, a multi-angle rearview camera, and much more.

The EX

The mid-level EX adds features like remote start, 60/40-split rear seatbacks, remote engine start, Honda’s LaneWatch, external trunk release, and an 8-inch touch screen featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

The Touring

The top-of-the-line Touring trim includes everything on the EX plus heated and leather-trimmed seats, embedded navigation, a 10-speaker premium audio system, and a moonroof.

Choose from a total of eight colors and feel free to build the Insight that’s perfect for you. Then, enjoy driving the kind of stylish, responsive, fuel-efficient vehicle that seems to be the wave of the future of hybrid cars.
