Of course you do, even if you don’t know what the Civic Type R is. But that’s why we’re here—to give you the low-down on the new Type R and how to enter Honda’s unique Track Day contest.

What is the Civic Type R?

To truly appreciate the Civic Track Day event, you’ll first need a Type R history lesson (of sorts). Honda Type R vehicles are special “performance edition” versions of their respective models. The Civic Type R, for instance, is a sportier and faster Civic. Engineered to be track-ready, the Type R weighs less, has a fine-tuned engine, and sports a tighter suspension to help the car ease into turns. The result is a wickedly fast car that takes no prisoners.

It’s the 2.0L Turbo that makes this Civic special. Pumping out 306 horsepower—it’s the most powerful engine Honda has sold in America—the engine, especially when paired with the +R Driving Mode, allows the Civic to really floor it. In fact, the 2017 Type R is head and shoulders better than even its 2015 counterpart, boasting a record-breaking Nurburgring Nordschleife (a German race track) lap time that’s nearly seven seconds quicker than 2015’s R. Impressive as the words ring in the ear, you have to watch the feat to believe it:

Going fast is nice and all, but the Type R isn’t just a speed demon—it also offers an exquisite sprinkling of style and one of the most comfortable cabins in Type R land. Front bucket seats keep you from rolling over through tight turns. The digital cluster gives you all the data you need to make the Type R work for you, not with you. And the center stack keeps all the essentials within fingers reach.

I’ll bite! How Do I Sign Up to Drive the Type R Civic?

Simply head over to Honda’s Civic Track Day site, go through the brief (and fun) pop quiz, and enter to win.

While we all wait patiently for the all-new Civic Type R to make its way to our Honda dealerships around Ft. Lauderdale, don’t forget to check out some of our regular, old-fashioned specials on another Honda model, like the Accord, CR-V, or Ridgeline. They might not give you goosebumps like the Type R would, but they’ll certainly have a place in your garage—and your heart.

Find and contact your closest South Florida Honda Dealers location to get more updates on the Civic Type R or inquire about another Honda model that might spark your interest. We have dealerships all over Miami, FL, including Florida City, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Pierce, Hollywood, and beyond, so you’ll always have a showroom nearby.
